484 I was very excited to read this book because I love historical fiction especially on the frontier. The beginning was a bit slow but by a quarter way through I was really enjoying it and had a hard time putting it down. However, I found the end of the story To be very disappointing and unresolved. I loved the love story between Lael and Captain Jack but it just ended. No closure whatsoever. They had a romantic encounter and he said he would return for her but he never did. Did he die? Did he fall in love or marry someone else? Did he see her with Ian and assumed she fell in love with someone else? He literally just vanished from the story. And Lael had so many unanswered questions that she wanted to ask Captain Jack about her father but they never got answered for her or for us because Captain Jack just disappeared. And, did her father truly die? I'm pretty sure he did but there is a little doubt about that too. Overall I enjoyed most of the book and thought it was well written. But, I didn't like the outcome and I definitely was disappointed in so many unresolved storylines.
